Meaning Behind 'Finding Home' documentary

In a world where the search for a home is ever growing, this documentary answers what actually is a home and is a home more than where you're born. Many people around the world move away from their birth home looking for a new place to call  home. This is the case for Chee Su Goh a Malaysian Christian who left his home in Kuala Lumpur to travel the world searching for a new Home. Chee Su explains what a home is to him, and how to find a home in this vast world. Home is not always defined, this documentary gives a definition of what a home is and how to find it.

About

This was a solo documentary project made by Oliver Thistlewood. The project was visualised, filmed and edited in less than two months. The filmaker found the interviewee at his local church and got speaking to who we now know as Chee Su. When setting out for this documentary Oliver wanted to find someone who had left one country to come to another. Someone who calls their "Home" not just where they were born. When Oliver found Chee Su he thought he had such a such an interesting life. Chee Su had travelled around the world looking for a home but has now said,''Bristol is our Home''. Although originally from Malaysia Chee Su had called Bristol his home. So many people in our world throughout time have left behind their birth homes looking for somewhere new to call home, its a theme throughout time. From the ancient Hebrews leaving Egypt to go to Israel, to people fleeing Syria to find safer homes, we as people love to search for "Home". Trying to find home in a physical place, we lose all meaning of the word. But, ''A home is more than where your born, its where you feel you're part of the community and the people around you."

 -Chee Su Goh

This is Oliver's first short documentary and he plans on releasing more documentaries in the future. The focus with his films is on people. Everyone has an interesting story if you're willing to listen. "Life is such a gift from God and I think its so important to listen to other people's lives. Documentary is such an incredible way to showcase people's amazing lives."

PaperMan

Upcoming Documentary

A new upcoming documentary about the Bristol legend Jeff Knight. Many know Jeff as the man who sells the Big Issue in the heart of Stokes Croft as well as the Clifton Triangle. He's seen by many, but known by few. Thousands of people walk past Jeff everyday, and he will hug and fist bump nearly everyone. Anyone who's spoken to Jeff knows he spreads so much love, Jeff is a one of a kind human being, a true Bristolian. Jeff seems like he has endless amounts of love to give out, but where does he get this love from, and how does he manage to keep going spreading that love everyday for decades?

This documentary answers where does Jeff get his love from, as well as looking into his amazing and complex life, and landing on how he got to where he is today.

This is more than just a documentary though, it's a call for action. Jeff is currently under a deportation case and is endlessly trying to fight it. Jeff needs as many people as possible to write character references to the UK government. Our goal for this documentary is to be a character reference of Jeff's endless love, but more than that show what a difference he makes to tens of thousands of peoples lives, if not more.
